EUDR

Products, company size and supply-chain role determine the preparation required.

EUDR: confirm the scope before preparing due diligence

According to the European Commission, EUDR applies from 30 December 2026 to large and medium-sized operators and to micro and small operators already covered by the EU Timber Regulation. For other micro and small operators, the stated date is 30 June 2027. Comissão Europeia / European Commission — EUDR implementation.

In July 2026, the Commission announced changes to product scope and digital implementation tools. Applicability should therefore be checked for each product, including its tariff code, rather than solely by the company’s business sector.

As a practical preparation step, I recommend a record for each product family: classification, origin, supplier, the company’s supply-chain role and available information. Gaps should be assigned to an owner with a resolution date.

Test a complete transaction, from purchasing to sale or export, checking the link between documents and origin information. The quality of supplier data matters as much as the tool used to organise it.

Before defining procedures, confirm the applicable version of the rules and the treatment of the particular product. A specific scope assessment avoids requesting unnecessary information and, above all, failing to collect relevant data.

Practical next step: Discuss your organisation’s preparation and audit needs. Get in touch.
